Master Gardener Monthly Meeting – August
August 6, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Featured Speaker: Lonnie Murray
Lecture: Protecting and Restoring Habitats in Your Landscapes to Protect Birds, Pollinators and Other Wildlife
Come for a lecture on orchid growing basics and a workshop to learn to repot your tired-of-blooming or overgrown orchids.
Lonnie Murray, who represents Albemarle County as a Director of the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, and who has a long history of local involvement in the issues of habitat and biodiversity conservation, will present our August 6 program.
He will address biodiversity in Albemarle County/Charlottesville and the unique habitats we have. He will focus on how to protect and restore habitats in our own backyards for birds, pollinators and other wildlife.
Mr. Murray was one of the authors of the Piedmont Native Plants guide and will discuss how to use it to help inform us about bird-friendly garden design. If you have a guide, please bring it. We have a few to sell at a cost of $10.
Every month the Piedmont Master Gardeners hold a members meeting to discuss projects, events, and listen to a lecture on a variety of horticulture topics. Open to the public, come see what being a Master Gardener is all about from the volunteering to the sharing of researched based gardening knowledge.
