Through The Garden Gate: Long Meadow
July 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Hosted by Dogwood Garden Club
There’s something for everyone at Long Meadow – annuals, perennials, bulbs, shade, sun, vegetables, herbs, fruit, water, groundcovers, shrubs, meadows, trees, concrete and natural sculpture, et al! Featured in Virginia Gardener in 2009, the gardens surrounding a century old Virginia farmhouse evolved and expanded over time and incorporate numerous perennials shared by friends. Wandering pathways, curved beds, and lush expanses of plantings are central to the design of both flower and vegetable gardens. Colorful accents abound in the summer – gladiola, hosta, zinnias, lucifer, and daisies all contribute to the picture. A terrace nestled in a grove of aging cedars faces the Blue Ridge and features brick reclaimed from a kitchen remodeling. With wildlife control managed by family pet Miles, Long Meadow is a boundless source of sustenance and beauty throughout the year.
