2020 Through the Garden Gate Series #2: Backyard Biome

June 13 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The 19th annual series of “Through the Garden Gate” presents a series of opportunities to visit local gardens. Come visit Ruth Mary’s Backyard Biome at 355 Key West Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911 hosted by the Piedmont Master Gardeners and the Dogwood Garden Club. Designed by the Center for Urban Habitats and installed in 2018, this 15,000-square-foot back garden reflects the flora and fauna of the Northern Piedmont Uplands eco-region. In addition to creating a vibrant, wild, and dynamic landscape, this use of native plantings adapted to local weather and site conditions helps conserve resources and minimize the need for maintenance. Typically at its peak in June, the garden is designed in four zones, each modeled after a different Piedmont ecosystem. Admission is $5 and can be paid at the garden.
