The Piedmont Master Gardeners have canceled all public events scheduled through June 10th, consistent with the Governor’s executive order and policies adopted by Virginia Tech and Virginia Cooperative Extension to prevent spread of COVID-19. We regret any inconvenience for those we serve, but we must prioritize public health and safety in this rapidly evolving situation. Please continue to visit our website for updates, including plans for providing ticket refunds and rescheduling events. We will be posting resources to gardening topics and relevant articles until we can resume our programs. Please continue to check our website during this time of social distancing.

CANCELLED 2020 Through the Garden Gate Series #3: Garden at Cargil Lane

July 11 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The 19th annual series of “Through the Garden Gate” presents a series of opportunities to visit local gardens. Come visit The Garden at Cargil Lane, 718 Cargil Lane, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 hosted by the Piedmont Master Gardeners. Built in 1938, the original house had extensive gardens, with a greenhouse, that over time were abandoned and became overrun by wild grape and wisteria. Ten years ago, the owners began to clear the overgrowth then design and plant the one-acre property. It borders a pond and stream, so wildlife is plentiful. A deer fence installed in 2019 has made a significant difference in planting options and protects a water garden; outside the fence, the garden features deer-resistant plants. Admission is $5 and can be paid at the garden.
