    Garden Basics: Growing Tomatoes with Confidence

    Flavorful, vine-ripened tomatoes are often the main reason many of us plant a vegetable garden. This session will provide practical advice on the basics of tomato growing success, including:

    • Choosing tomato varieties
    • Planting guidelines
    • Caring for tomato plants
    • Dealing with tomato diseases and pests
    • Harvesting and storing tomatoes.

    Garden Basics is a partnership with the Bread and Roses ministry at Trinity Episcopal Church in Charlottesville.

    UVA Guided Tree & History Walk

    Saturday, June 14 @ 9:30 am11:30 am

    Join Tree Stewards Carol Wise and Jackie Vawter on this walk through beautiful surroundings as we discuss the history of the area, some specimen and native trees. We will share information about the value of biodiversity, tree identification, and specific qualities related to each tree discussed.  This is an easy to moderate walk over a gentle sloping area of paved walkways and grassy areas under a high canopy of trees.

    Meet in front of the UVA Chapel, located at 145 McCormick Road on the corner of University Avenue and McCormick Roads. Parking is available at Central Grounds Garage, 400 Emmett Street S, Charlottesville, VA.

    Want to become a guardian of the Botanical Garden? This group of intrepid volunteers performs vital maintenance work such as weeding existing beds, identifying and managing invasive plants, maintaining paths, and more. Join to help us keep the site a wonderful place for its visitors.

    Storytime at the Garden – Presented by JMRL Gordon Ave Branch

    Botanical Garden of the Piedmont 950 Melbourne Road, Charlottesville, VA

    Bring a blanket or chairs for stories and rhymes outside at Charlottesville’s Botanical Garden of the Piedmont.  After storytime, you can enjoy the garden, trek the trails, delight in the wonders of nature at the garden, or stay for the Create with Nature program at 10:30am. The program is outside; inclement weather cancels.
